Latest Acne Treatment for Your Skin - Isotretinoin Therapy and Topical Retinoids

New treatments for acne are being published on an ongoing basis. When it comes to the best acne treatment on the market today (2007) consider the new research regarding Isotretinoin Therapy and Topical Retinoids as well as new reports on the effectiveness of a tazarotene and oral minocycline hydrochloride combination for your skin before moving forward to find the solution to curing or managing your acne problem.

Acne is a skin rash that stems from a disorder of the skins oil ducts and hair follicles. Plugged ducts create the best environment in and on the skin to allow bacteria to multiply, aggravating the skin and causing further outbreaks and damage.

Two new acne treatments for 2006-2007 are:

  1. Isotretinoin Therapy. Isotretinoin is a synthetic derivative of vitamin A approved to treat nodular acne. Isotretinoin is noted for its success in decreasing sebum production
  2. Topical Retinoids is an older and more common treatment for acne used almost exclusively for the treatment of predominantly comedonal acne vulgaris. New research however shows Topical Retinoids to have extended value as maintenance therapy as well as evidence to show it’s efficacy in reducing the amount of antibiotics in treatment.

Other new acne research is attempting to determine which acne regimen works best: tazarotene, oral minocycline hydrochloride, or both, in improving acne. The result was that a combination of tazarotene and minocycline therapy showed a trend for success as an acne maintenance regimen but no statistical significance vs. tazarotene alone.

Acne treatment research is still a hot topic of new research and new prevention and treatment solutions are in sight for relief from this potentially devastating adn demoralizing condition. Check back for the latest acne treatments for 2007.
